Supporting Students through Writing Challenges
When it comes down to it, even the seasoned writing pros face writing challenges. And with how powerful writing is, it’s not hard to wonder why! But without further ado, here are a couple common challenges faced by young writers and a tip or two that can help.
“But the page is completely blank!”
Writers block. It often hits before you’ve ever even written a word. And for many growing writers, those first sentences can seem overwhelming to get down on the paper. But usually, once you help them break through, the words pour out like a dam has been broken. One way to do this is to encourage them to get anything down on the paper, even just random thoughts not related to the topic! This can have the effect of showing them that it’s okay to just let the ideas flow when you’re starting.
“But other people don’t face writing challenges!”
This is another misconception by many younger writers regarding the craft. Yet, when you tell them how world-famous writers like Hemingway or J.K. Rowling have described many difficulties in their writing careers, it puts writing into perspective. You can even tell them how you face writing challenges, even that you face them every day right now! This helps show them writing, like anything, is about overcoming those challenges.
And with Writing with Design’s award-winning program, you can do exactly that! Want to know how? Get in touch with us to find out.
