Are We Actually Trying to Get It Right the First Time?
Because you’ve probably heard that phrase once or twice before in the past. In some walks of life, it’s almost become a way of life.
“Get it right the first time.”
“Do or die.”
“First time’s the charm.”
If that’s all we have as educators, we have a long way to go. In fact, in writing, where we can revise, reenvision, and recalibrate, is this approach even true at all?
At Writing with Design, we have a completely different mantra: Enhance, Enhance, Enhance
This should, in part, be our daily shout as we create adept writers of all ages. Writing isn’t something even the pros get right the first time, and it’s a skill that takes a lifetime to master.
So, instead of stressing how we can get it exactly right the first time, let’s change our tune. Let’s give our young writers space to flesh out, improve upon, and craft their ideas. Not only will we be building up their writing skills, we’ll be building up them as well.
