The Gift of Writing Lasts All Year and Beyond
With the holiday time here, it’s not hard to imagine that many teachers and parents are searching for a special gift or two. And to put it simply, the Writing with Design team was here to give you some ideas for those young readers and young writers. Indeed, we even looked at everything from affordable, trendy fountain pens to e-readers and more. These gift ideas are excellent for fostering a love of all things literary. Without question, we love, love, love to help you create writers and readers who can’t get enough reading and writing and who are confident in their skills.
And perhaps there’s a bigger takeaway here this season. While a new book or a classic notebook are welcome gifts for our young learners, there’s a more fundamental lesson in each one. It’s not that we’re just giving them the latest or the trendiest, even if that laptop bag has a super cool design or they’re reading the most popular book right now. On the contrary, we’re giving them those and a lifelong enthusiasm for communication. This enthusiasm manifests itself in the ability to speak one’s mind powerfully through writing, to make convincing arguments about what they believe most in, and to capture their own experiences as they navigate the world.
In other words, our gift to these young writers and readers is the written word itself, with all its fascinating and exciting potential. It’s a gift that transcends any one month, any single season, or even any specific year. It is, and always will be, an exceptional gift that connects them to themselves, each other, and the future.
