Writing is Messy and that's Okay... You Just Need a Road Map
When you go to a popular camping spot, what do you usually see? Along with tents, firewood, fishing polls, packs, and maybe even some clothing hung from a line… you might also catch something else. Throughout the day, the campers might come together, often during meal time, and share their thoughts. We’ve probably all been there. The laughter, jokes, and storytelling. Sometimes there’s debate; other times, a lesson or two.
During this time, you might notice that there’s not exactly a plan. The conversation… well, it just… flows. And that’s perfectly acceptable. Although it might seem a little haphazard, it follows its own internal movement. One conversation leads into the next, and the next, and the next.
The writing process is also a little chaotic at times, especially when you’re just starting out. But as you’re teaching a young writer how to write, there’s an internal momentum, a progression to the thoughts they’re putting on paper. And exactly like camping, when we supply them with a map, they can find their way through that forest of thoughts and ideas. And at the same time, they can still experience a true sense of adventure with it as well.
Writing with Design was created with this in mind. As it clears a path for your young writers, it also blazes a trail to new adventures and daring experiences. But always keep in mind, that learning how to write… even teaching a young writer how to write, can be a bit messy. And that’s completely okay, because we’re all on this path together.
